Personally, this is my 3rd year on the build and every year has proven to be a better experience than the last. When I first started with Synergis, I was so impressed that they were involved with a project of this size! I mean, each employee takes one full work day to go down and volunteer to build this house! That’s a lot of time that could be spent in the office being productive – but Synergis and the other sponsors don’t look at it that way. Their employees are being productive, it’s just for another person’s gain.
As I got more settled into the company, I learned that this isn’t just a once a year thing for our company. They are constantly giving back to the community: March of Dimes, the United Way, Toys for Tots…the list goes on and on. Most recently, we raised money for a consultant whose home was devastated in the Alabama storms. Synergis has 7 Core Values that we use as a guide for our company and yes, you guessed it, Community Involvement is one of them.
People look to be employed by companies who care. And whose caring goes past their office doors. I don’t know this for a fact, but I would be willing to bet that companies who make corporate citizenship a core value to their business have lower turn over and overall happier employees. Here at Synergis, 15% of our employees have been with our company for 5+ years!
While it can be time consuming to coordinate projects like these or to put a corporate responsibility program in place at your company, the rewards are well worth it – inside the walls of your company and out.
