TITLE: Supervisor, Substation Design (Physical)
LOCATION: Tucker, GA
ANTICIPATED DURATION: 08/03/2026 to 02/05/2027
Responsibilities:
- Direct the preparation, integrity, and distribution of all Substation Design products and services associated with the physical design of substation projects.
- Supervise the timely completion of project deliverables such as transmission and distribution design projects.
- Allocate design resources to upcoming projects and oversee the design standards and their incorporation into the AutoCAD design center.
- Administrate the Bill of Material Tool (BOM) which identifies the bulk of substation components used in project design and construction.
- Oversee the As-built process related to the physical designs of substations.
- Provide Quality Control by performing design reviews for project designs and project estimates.
- Supervise the response to all requests related to Substation Design physical design issues, including emergency, corrective, routine maintenance, and coordination with Relay & Control.
- Manage assignments based on general objectives and limits, supporting team goals through work coordination and review of technical work products.
- Act as a liaison with individuals and departments within and outside the organization on Substation Physical Design matters.
- Ensure staff compliance with established policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives to meet corporate goals and objectives.
- Develop, maintain, interpret, and implement policies and procedures to ensure protection of facilities and reliable electric service.
- Supervise and direct design activities and staff, including conflict resolution, training, and administrative guidance.
- Manage workload, conduct staff meetings, ensure timely product and service completion, and maintain compliance with Quality Programs.
- Conduct performance reviews, set development goals, and manage staff growth and accountability.
- Review, develop, and present solutions for physical design issues to management and executive staff, utilizing advanced engineering methods when necessary.
- Perform project engineering reviews and functions, including analysis, studies, and design work.
- Lead negotiations and resolution of design issues with internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent the organization in meetings with other utilities and external entities.
- Contribute input to the annual budget, goals, and resource planning.
- Assist in resource forecasting and contract management.
- Strategically select and develop qualified design staff, including managing performance, raises, promotions, and recognition.
Requirements:
- BS in Engineering (preferably Civil or Electrical).
- 10 years of experience in electrical utility work.
- 6 years of electrical substation design experience.
- AutoCAD 2D proficiency.
Preferred Experience:
- PE certification with 8 years of experience.
- Experience with Primtech 3D.
The hourly pay rate range for this position is $80.00 to $105.00 (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location).
