The Cloud Data Engineer contractor will support Risk Technology Services in migrating and modernizing its on-premises Microsoft SQL Server-based data platform to Azure. This role focuses on building and optimizing scalable, secure, and efficient cloud-native data pipelines and platforms in collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with Azure data services, strong SQL and ETL skills, and a practical understanding of cloud migration workflows.
Cloud Data Engineer Responsibilities:
- Support the execution of the team’s cloud data strategy through development and migration tasks.
- Build and maintain robust, secure, and efficient data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and Azure SQL.
- Migrate existing on-premises SQL Server data and ETL processes to Azure-based solutions.
- Collaborate with engineering and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into production-grade solutions.
- Perform data transformation, validation, and performance tuning across cloud data workflows.
- Support automation efforts through CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and operational support for cloud-based processes.
Cloud Data Engineer Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, including at least 1–2 years working with Azure data services.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL, ADLS, and Key Vault.
- Proficiency in SQL and ELT/ETL processing.
- Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Cloud Data Engineer Preferred Experience:
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale data environments in financial services or risk domains.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or modern medallion/Lakehouse architecture.
- Exposure to Azure governance and monitoring tools (e.g., Purview, Monitor, Log Analytics).
- Comfortable working in an Agile environment with distributed teams.
The hourly pay rate range for this position is $68 to $71 (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location).
