Pay Rate: $18-22/hr W2
Position Summary
Seeking a skilled Telecommunications Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure. This role is essential to ensuring the reliability and performance of voice, data, and control systems that serve our enterprise and operational needs.
The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background in telecommunications systems, be comfortable working in a cross-functional team environment, and have the flexibility to support a 24×7 on-call rotation.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of telecommunications systems and infrastructure.
- Support infrastructure deployment efforts, including fiber optic cabling, microwave radio systems, wireless access technologies, and power systems.
- Perform fiber optic splicing and termination on Outside Plant (OSP) cabling.
- Support engineering and operations teams with access to telecommunications infrastructure in substations and other critical facilities.
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of system and network issues in both field and control center environments.
- Ensure all infrastructure meets safety, reliability, and quality standards.
- Document installations, maintenance activities, and network configurations.
- Respond to and resolve operational issues in a timely and effective manner.
Required Qualifications
- Education/Experience:
- Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology or Telecommunications, or
- Equivalent military training, or
- A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in a related telecommunications or electronics field.
Technical Knowledge:
- Working knowledge in two or more of the following areas:
- Microwave (licensed and unlicensed)
- Wireless access technologies
- Fiber optics (electronics and cable)
- Multiplexing / DACS
- Digital and IP communications
- Data and voice networks
- EMS/SCADA systems
- Substation equipment monitors
- LTE RF / Backhaul
- Ancillary systems (AC/DC power systems, surge protection, grounding, physical facilities, alarm monitoring)
Experience With:
- Fiber optic cable splicing and termination (OSP cabling)
- Infrastructure installation and implementation in cross-functional teams
- Troubleshooting and operational problem resolution in complex environments
Additional Requirements
- Ability to participate in a 24×7 on-call maintenance rotation to support critical infrastructure.
- Capable of performing physical duties, including:
- Driving long distances
- Walking on uneven terrain
- Climbing ladders
- Working at heights and above shoulder level
- Lifting up to 50 lbs
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in fiber optics, microwave systems, or telecommunications infrastructure.
- Prior experience working in utility or critical infrastructure environments.
- Familiarity with NERC/CIP compliance standards.
The compensation range for this position is $18 to $22
(dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location).
