Technical Business Analyst
Title: Technical Business Analyst
Location: Cupertino/Los Angeles, CA
Duration: 12 Months
Job Summary
- We are looking for an experienced Technical Business Analyst with a strong focus on Developer Experience to assist and lead in translating business needs into technical execution for our internal web applications and services. Candidates should have a deep understanding of software development lifecycles and what engineering teams need to build and maintain cloud-based applications efficiently.
- This is a role for a problem solver who is eager to influence not only what software we build, but how it is built and experienced by our engineering teams. You will take ownership of business and product requirements, conduct thorough gap analyses, and translate these into clear, actionable technical requirements. You bring a balance of curiosity and resourcefulness. You should be able to dive deep into technical details to find solutions independently, while recognizing when collaboration with your team is essential.
- You are a communicator at heart, able to clearly articulate technical ideas, challenges, and solutions to both technical and nontechnical teams. Your communication style fosters strong collaboration across operational, technical, and creative teams. Because you understand the developer experience, you know that clear, concise, and well-documented requirements are key – whether communicated via Jira, Confluence, email, or face-to-face conversations.
- In a small team, we all wear a lot of hats. You are not afraid to get into the weeds of technical specifications, but also know when it’s time to pull back and prioritize the bigger picture. You respect both your own time and the time of others, knowing when to work independently and when to bring forward your ideas to help evolve the team’s processes and vision.
- You thrive in a fast-paced environment, remaining level-headed under pressure and adapting quickly when priorities change. You're organized and able to keep multiple projects moving forward, even as deadlines shift or new challenges emerge. Flexibility is key. You’re comfortable with pivoting, whether that means starting over or changing direction entirely.
- If you're excited about being part of a dynamic, growing team and have the ability to take ownership of projects while contributing to collective success, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Qualifications
- Hybrid Technical Proficiency: Strong familiarity with modern full-stack development. While this is a BA role, the ideal candidate can “read” and occasionally contribute to our diverse stack, including PHP (Laravel), Python (FastAPI), and JavaScript (React & Express). Should also have a strong understand of semantic HTML markup and CSS.
- Technical Translation: Proven background in Technical Business Analysis or Systems Analysis, with a mastery of translating ambiguous business goals into rigorous technical specifications and logic flows.
- Developer Experience (DX) Champion: Deep understanding of the developer's needs. You provide the documentation, OpenAPI/Swagger specs, and clear functional requirements necessary to ensure engineering can build friction-free.
- Architectural Literacy: Solid understanding of architectural design patterns – from monolithic MVC patterns to EventDriven Architecture (EDA).
- Data Modeling & Schema Design: Proficiency in database concepts (PostgreSQL) with the ability to model schemas, define relationships, and understand how data migrations impact the broader system.
- API & Integration Design: Extensive experience detailing RESTful API integrations. You understand how to map data between internal services and third-party platforms (e.g., Wrike, Box, Slack).
- Gap Analysis & Technical Reviews: Proven ability to lead gap analysis and technical audits to ensure the product vision is technically feasible and aligned with existing engineering capabilities.
- Agile Requirements Engineering: Expert at writing comprehensive user stories with robust Technical Acceptance Criteria (TAC) and facilitating estimation in fast-paced sprint cycles.
- Legacy & Modern Bridge: Comfortable navigating a “legacy-meets-modern” environment by balancing the needs of a stable Laravel monolith with the requirements of new React/Express and Python services (and strategies for porting over legacy features to the new stack).
- Collaborative Execution: A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally, acting as the vital link between stakeholders and the engineering team.
Bonus Qualifications
- Past experience working directly as a software developer or engineer.
- Familiarity with API testing and documentation tools (e.g., Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI).
- Understanding of Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and how they impact the developer workflow.
- Experience with automated testing strategies and frameworks (PHPUnit, Cypress, Selenium).
- Experience with AI integrations like MCP tools.

We often provide tech support and process guidance for others on our team.

Even if these tools don’t exist, so you’ll draw on your experience and instinct to help define the tools based on the needs of the project.
