TITLE: WebSphere Commerce Architect

LOCATION: Fully Remote

1-2 year contract

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of the enterprise WebSphere Commerce platform to support complex, high-volume eCommerce initiatives.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements, define solution architecture, and translate business needs into scalable technical designs.
  • Establish architectural standards and best practices for WebSphere Commerce implementations, ensuring performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Design and oversee multi-tier eCommerce solutions, spanning front-end, middleware, and backend systems within an Agile environment.
  • Architect and guide integrations with internal and external systems using REST/SOAP web services and event-driven patterns.
  • Provide technical leadership for storefront customization, business logic, and data management using WebSphere Commerce tools and frameworks.
  • Define and implement microservices architecture using Java and Spring Boot, supporting front-end modernization efforts with React.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and architectural risks; drive optimization strategies and ensure code reusability and platform stability.
  • Mentor developers and conduct design reviews to ensure adherence to architectural standards and commerce best practices.
  • Support release planning, integration testing strategies, and system cut-over activities for large-scale commerce initiatives.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with WebSphere Commerce (version 8.x experience is a plus), including architecture and platform design.
  • Proven expertise in Java, object-oriented design, and building scalable, enterprise-grade backend services.
  • Strong understanding of modern front-end architectures and frameworks, particularly React, along with JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing REST/SOAP-based integrations across enterprise systems.
  • Deep knowledge of multi-tier application architecture, performance tuning, and scalability strategies for eCommerce platforms.
  • Experience with source control/versioning tools such as GIT, SVN, or CVS.
  • Background working with MVC frameworks such as Struts or Spring MVC; strong understanding of B2B, B2C, and Mobile Commerce models.
  • Ability to design and optimize complex relational data models and database interactions.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and leading technical design within cross-functional teams.

The hourly pay rate range for this position is $76.65 to $95/hr (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location).
