Design System Specialist (Figma & Design Operations)
Location: 100% Remote (U.S. Based)
Duration: Long-Term Contract
Compensation: $65–70/hour W2
About the Role
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Design System Specialist to support the ongoing evolution, maintenance, and documentation of a mature enterprise design system.
This role is focused on execution, organization, and craftsmanship. You will play a critical role in ensuring components, patterns, and documentation remain accurate, scalable, and consistent across the design ecosystem. Working closely with design and engineering teams, you'll help operationalize design standards and improve the overall quality and usability of the system.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys building structure, creating clarity, and maintaining high-quality design operations within a large-scale product environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design System Maintenance & Governance

Build, organize, and maintain Figma component libraries and shared assets.

Configure and manage components, variants, properties, and nested structures.

Maintain auto-layout frameworks, responsive behaviors, and reusable design patterns.

Support design token implementation and management.
-
Apply and enforce established naming conventions, file organization standards, and version control practices.
Component Quality & Consistency

Ensure components are properly configured with states, sizes, themes, and other scalable properties.

Review and refine existing patterns to eliminate inconsistencies and duplication.

Maintain accessibility and usability standards across the design system.

Promote consistency and adherence to design system best practices.
Documentation & Knowledge Management

Create and maintain design system documentation within Zeroheight or similar platforms.

Develop clear usage guidelines, examples, best practices, and implementation recommendations.

Document component behaviors, design decisions, and governance standards.

Ensure documentation remains synchronized with updates made in Figma.
Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with designers and engineers to clarify component behavior, usage, and implementation requirements.

Support design-to-development handoff processes by maintaining accurate and comprehensive system assets.

Help teams adopt and utilize design system resources effectively.
Required Qualifications

Strong hands-on expertise with Figma, including:
-
Components, variants, and properties
-
Auto Layout and responsive design techniques
-
Library management and publishing workflows
-

Experience working with, maintaining, or scaling enterprise design systems.

Experience with Zeroheight or similar design system documentation platforms.

Deep understanding of:

UI components and design patterns

Systematic design thinking

Scalable, reusable design solutions

Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to work within established processes while maintaining high quality standards.

Experience collaborating across design and engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with front-end development concepts, including HTML, CSS, and component-based architectures.

Experience working with design tokens, variables, and theming systems.

Understanding of accessibility standards and WCAG best practices.

Experience supporting large-scale enterprise products and cross-functional teams.

Background in Design Operations, Design Systems, Product Design, or UI Engineering environments.
What We're Looking For

The hourly pay range for this position (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location) is $65 to $70/hr.
