Title: Senior Accessibility & Inclusive Design Specialist

Location: Atlanta, GA | Onsite 5 days per week

Team: Digital Product & Customer Experience

Duration: 6+ months with possible extension (W2 with benefits)

Pay: $50-$80/hour

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Accessibility & Inclusive Design Specialist to help create more accessible, inclusive, and intuitive digital experiences for a large-scale consumer platform.

This individual will work closely with UX/Product Designers, UX Researchers, Product Managers, Content Designers, and Engineering teams to ensure accessibility is embedded throughout the product development lifecycle—not simply evaluated at the end.

The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of digital accessibility standards, hands-on experience evaluating and improving complex digital products, and the ability to translate accessibility requirements into actionable design and development recommendations.

This role requires someone who can balance technical accessibility expertise with a strong understanding of user experience, inclusive design principles, and the needs of people with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Accessibility Strategy & Inclusive Design

  • Champion accessible and inclusive design practices across digital products, platforms, and customer experiences.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to incorporate accessibility considerations from initial discovery through design, development, testing, and launch.
  • Identify accessibility barriers across complex customer journeys and recommend practical solutions.
  • Help establish scalable accessibility patterns, standards, and best practices across product teams.
  • Advocate for the needs of users with diverse abilities, including visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.

Accessibility Audits & Evaluation

  • Conduct hands-on accessibility evaluations of web, mobile, and responsive digital experiences.
  • Assess products against WCAG 2.1/2.2 Level AA standards and relevant accessibility requirements.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and communicate accessibility defects and usability barriers.
  • Perform manual accessibility testing using screen readers, keyboard navigation, and other assistive technologies.
  • Evaluate accessible interaction patterns, focus management, semantic structure, form accessibility, and dynamic content behavior.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and QA to validate remediation efforts.

UX & Product Design Collaboration

  • Partner directly with UX/Product Designers to review wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and interactive experiences.
  • Provide actionable recommendations around accessible navigation, interaction design, visual hierarchy, color contrast, typography, and content structure.
  • Support the development and adoption of accessible components within enterprise design systems.
  • Help teams design accessible experiences for complex interactions, including search, product discovery, forms, checkout, account management, and transactional workflows.
  • Ensure accessibility considerations extend beyond compliance to deliver genuinely usable experiences.

Inclusive Research & Advocacy

  • Collaborate with UX Researchers to incorporate people with disabilities into usability studies and product discovery.
  • Translate research findings and accessibility insights into meaningful product improvements.
  • Educate and influence stakeholders on accessibility principles and inclusive design opportunities.
  • Facilitate accessibility reviews, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions with design and engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in digital accessibility, inclusive design, accessibility consulting, UX accessibility, or a related discipline.
  • Strong working knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA, WAI-ARIA, and accessible interaction design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting accessibility audits and translating findings into actionable product improvements.
  • Hands-on experience testing with assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, or TalkBack.
  • Strong understanding of keyboard accessibility, focus management, screen-reader behavior, semantic HTML, and accessible forms.
  • Experience partnering with UX Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and QA teams in an Agile product environment.
  • Ability to evaluate designs in Figma and provide accessibility guidance throughout the design process.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex accessibility issues to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience improving accessibility across enterprise-scale web or mobile products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale e-commerce, retail, consumer technology, or transactional digital products.
  • Familiarity with accessibility requirements under the ADA and Section 508.
  • Accessibility certifications such as IAAP CPACC, WAS, or CPWA.
  • Experience contributing to accessible enterprise design systems, component libraries, and reusable interaction patterns.
  • Familiarity with accessibility evaluation tools such as axe DevTools, WAVE, Accessibility Insights, or Lighthouse.
  • Experience conducting or supporting usability research with people with disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end accessibility implementation.
  • Experience helping organizations mature their accessibility practices through training, standards, and governance.

The hourly pay range for this position (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location) is $55.00 to $80.00/hr. Benefits available to full-time employees: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401k and commuter benefits.
