Design System Engineer
TITLE: Design System Engineer
LOCATION: Remote
ANTICIPATED DURATION: From 07/13/2026 to 12/31/2026
Responsibilities:
- Own the design system's component library in code, built on the team's front-end stack and themed on Material 3
- Build and maintain the tokens-to-code pipeline so design tokens flow from Figma into production code without hand-translation
- Publish the system and stand up versioning and release, so consuming teams can pull a component reliably
- Implement the theming layer in code so the brand applies consistently across products
- Connect and validate the token layer end to end, from semantic definition to rendered component
- Produce structured, machine-readable component output (metadata, docs, examples) so the system is usable by AI tooling as well as developers
- Stand up the supporting infrastructure: a component workbench (e.g., Storybook), tests, and CI so quality holds as the system grows
- Work closely with the senior designers on token architecture and handoff, keeping design intent intact in code
Requirements:
- Strong front-end engineering background with hands-on design system implementation
- Experience building and publishing a component library, including versioning and release workflows
- Hands-on experience with a tokens-to-code pipeline (Style Dictionary, Tokens Studio, or similar)
- Working knowledge of Material 3 or a comparable component framework, including theming
- Comfort with Figma's developer-facing features and the design-to-code handoff
- Experience producing machine-readable component documentation and metadata
- Familiarity with component workbench tools (Storybook or equivalent), testing, and CI/CD for a shared library
- Solid grasp of accessibility implementation (WCAG, ARIA, semantic markup)
- Experience supporting design and product teams as the consumers of a system
- Experience in a regulated or enterprise environment is a plus
