Job Title: Product Owner – Content & Platform Integrations
Location: Hybrid (Atlanta preferred)
Employment Type: W2 Contract (with potential to convert or extend)

About the Role

The Weather Channel is seeking a Product Owner to serve as a critical bridge between our editorial/content teams and engineering partners. This role will focus on launching new features and platform implementations—not maintenance work. You will own the end-to-end process of translating editorial needs into technical product requirements, ensuring our content management systems, article templates, and front-end platforms (including Next.js) are optimized for scale, usability, and impact.

You will work cross-functionally to drive platform innovation and support a content-rich experience across web and mobile. This includes managing Jira tickets, owning the content-related product roadmap, and representing editorial needs in product meetings. You’ll be embedded with the content team and act as their technical advocate within the broader product and engineering ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the embedded Product Owner for the content team, translating content needs and use cases into structured, technical requirements.

  • Lead the implementation of new CMS features, article templates, and front-end improvements (Next.js framework experience a plus).

  • Own and manage Jira tickets, sprint grooming, backlog prioritization, and roadmap alignment in collaboration with PMs across platforms (web, iOS, Android).

  • Collaborate closely with platform Product Managers (Julianne, Melissa) to ensure new feature development is aligned with broader product goals.

  • Be the voice of content in product and sprint planning meetings; advocate for editorial efficiency, usability, and scalability.

  • Drive documentation efforts and improve CMS usability for editorial teams.

  • Partner with architects and engineers to map technical requirements and build scalable solutions for content publishing.

  • Ensure clear communication across disciplines, from content strategy to engineering.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience as a Product Owner or Technical Product Manager, ideally in media, publishing, or content-heavy environments.

  • Strong understanding of CMS platforms, content structures, and digital publishing workflows.

  • Experience with Jira, Agile development methodologies, and product roadmapping.

  • Working knowledge of front-end frameworks (e.g., Next.js) and ability to collaborate with engineers on implementation.

  • Proven ability to translate non-technical content needs into detailed technical requirements.

  • Strong communication skills—must be able to advocate for editorial teams while aligning with engineering and product leadership.

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with content creators, developers, designers, and product managers.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with content taxonomy, metadata structures, and UX best practices for digital publishing.

  • Experience supporting platform migrations or new CMS implementations.

  • Prior work within a media, entertainment, or news organization is a plus (e.g., Sirius XM, other major content publishers).
