Senior Product Designer (Staff / Principal-Level IC)

Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid 2 Days/Week) or Fully Remote (U.S.)
Type: W2 Contract
Duration: Long-Term Contract
Compensation: $55–70/hr W2

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly balanced Staff/Principal-level Product Designer to help shape and modernize complex dealer-facing software experiences within a large-scale automotive technology platform.

This is not a specialist UX role focused only on research, visual design, or strategy.

We are looking for a true end-to-end product designer who can independently own product work across the full lifecycle — from discovery and research through workflow design, production execution, prototyping, and engineering handoff.

This person should be equally comfortable:

  • Defining complex workflow problems
  • Navigating product and stakeholder tradeoffs
  • Defending design decisions with business logic and research
  • Creating production-ready UX
  • Helping teams operationalize future-state concepts into realistic MVPs and phased delivery plans

This role sits inside a highly AI-forward product organization where designers are expected to actively leverage modern AI tooling as part of day-to-day workflow execution.

What Makes This Role Different

This is not traditional consumer-facing UX or a strategy-only design role.

This team is specifically looking for someone who thrives in:

  • Complex enterprise operational systems
  • Workflow-heavy B2B SaaS environments
  • CRM-style ecosystems and admin platforms
  • Data-dense operational tooling
  • AI-assisted product experiences
  • Legacy modernization initiatives
  • Product environments where UX decisions must balance user needs, business goals, and engineering realities

The strongest candidates will be balanced generalists who are consistently strong across:

  • discovery
  • research
  • product thinking
  • systems design
  • production UX
  • prototyping
  • stakeholder management
  • engineering handoff
  • tactical execution

About the Product

The platform supports dealership sales representatives, managers, and operational teams across critical business workflows, including:

  • Lead management and prioritization
  • Customer communication workflows
  • Inventory visibility and tracking
  • Deal and pipeline management
  • Reporting, dashboards, and operational insights
  • Workflow orchestration and automation

The product is also evolving through AI-driven capabilities such as:

  • Lead scoring and prioritization
  • AI-assisted recommendations and next-best actions
  • Workflow automation
  • Intelligent operational insights
  • Predictive decision support
  • AI-assisted operational experiences

What You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end product design across discovery, research, workflow definition, UX execution, prototyping, and engineering handoff
  • Design complex workflow-heavy enterprise experiences involving interconnected user journeys, operational dependencies, and business logic
  • Translate future-state concepts into practical MVPs and phased delivery plans
  • Partner deeply with Product Managers, engineers, and stakeholders to influence product direction and roadmap decisions
  • Defend UX recommendations through business logic, research insights, operational impact, and product reasoning
  • Navigate tradeoffs across user needs, business priorities, engineering constraints, and delivery realities
  • Design and refine:
    • User flows
    • Information architecture
    • Wireframes
    • High-fidelity UI
    • Interactive prototypes
    • Workflow maps
    • Service blueprints
    • Systems models
  • Conduct and synthesize research, usability testing, and workflow discovery
  • Facilitate workshops, critiques, and cross-functional working sessions
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to ensure high-quality implementation
  • Balance strategic thinking with tactical hands-on production work in fast-moving agile environments
  • Help modernize legacy enterprise systems into scalable, intelligent product ecosystems

AI & Modern Product Workflow Expectations

This team is actively integrating AI into both the product experience and the internal product development workflow.

Strong candidates are not simply AI-aware — they are actively integrating AI into how they think, prototype, collaborate, research, and accelerate delivery.

Strong preference for candidates with practical hands-on experience using tools/workflows such as:

  • Claude
  • Claude Code
  • Figma Make
  • VS Code
  • Cursor
  • v0
  • ChatGPT / Gemini
  • AI-assisted prototyping workflows
  • AI-powered research and synthesis tools

Candidates should be able to speak clearly to how AI improves product thinking, prototyping, iteration speed, workflow exploration, and delivery outcomes — not just casual experimentation.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of Product Design / UX Design experience, with clear Staff/Principal-level ownership expectations
  • Proven end-to-end ownership across discovery through shipped product delivery
  • Strong experience designing:
    • Enterprise SaaS platforms
    • Internal operational tooling
    • Workflow-heavy applications
    • CRM ecosystems
    • Dashboard/reporting systems
    • Data-rich enterprise experiences
  • Strong systems-thinking and workflow design experience
  • Experience navigating product tradeoffs and influencing roadmap/product decisions
  • Experience defending design recommendations with PMs, engineering teams, and stakeholders
  • Strong UX craft across:
    • interaction design
    • systems design
    • workflow orchestration
    • enterprise usability
    • production UX execution
  • Experience conducting user research and applying findings directly into product decisions
  • Proficiency with Figma and modern prototyping tools
  • Experience partnering closely with engineering through implementation and handoff
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to operate independently in ambiguity and complex enterprise environments
  • Portfolio demonstrating research → product thinking → workflow complexity → tactical execution → business outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing AI-assisted product experiences or workflow automation systems
  • Experience integrating AI into enterprise operational workflows
  • Experience modernizing legacy enterprise systems
  • Experience in automotive, logistics, supply chain, fintech, healthcare, operational SaaS, or workflow-heavy enterprise platforms
  • Experience facilitating service blueprinting, systems mapping, or complex workflow modeling
  • Experience mentoring designers or contributing to design operations/process improvement
