Firewall Support Analyst

TITLE: Palo Alto Firewall Support Analyst
LOCATION: Atlanta, GA hybrid 4 days onsite
ANTICIPATED DURATION: Through end of year + extensions

Responsibilities:

• Support enterprise firewall environment by assisting with firewall rule request validation, security exception reviews, and adherence to established network security policies and runbooks.
• Analyze firewall logs and network traffic to support troubleshooting, incident response, and root cause analysis.
• Contribute to the cleanup and optimization of firewall rules, address objects, and related policy components.
• Support reporting efforts by helping track firewall rule usage, cleanup progress, and operational performance.
• Collaborate with network security and infrastructure teams to improve documentation, process consistency, and daily firewall operations.
• Validate and review firewall rule requests to ensure compliance with security standards and policies.
• Perform security exception reviews and evaluate business justification and risk impact.
• Develop and maintain reports on firewall rule usage, cleanup progress, and object utilization.
• Conduct recurring audits of security exceptions and support remediation efforts to maintain compliance.
• Support the creation and maintenance of security workflows, procedures, and runbooks.

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field, or 3+ years of experience in network security or firewall administration.
• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Panorama.
• Good understanding of firewall concepts, including security zones, NAT, access control policies, and application-based rules.
• Experience reviewing firewall policies, analyzing logs/traffic data, and supporting troubleshooting or incident response.
• Ability to evaluate security requests and exceptions, including validating business justification and assessing risk impact.
• Relevant certification(s) such as PCNSA, PCNSE, Security+, or equivalent experience.

• Experience with SSL decryption, security exception management, and firewall policy governance.
• Experience performing firewall policy cleanup, rule recertification, and object optimization.
• Familiarity with reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI, Excel, Splunk, or Panorama reporting.
• Experience building dashboards or metrics to track firewall usage, cleanup progress, or operational performance.

The hourly pay rate range for this position is $40.00 to $50.00 (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location).
