TITLE: Area Manager
LOCATION: Chicagoland, IL
Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day operations with a focus on safety, customer service, and consistent service delivery.
- Monitor performance metrics, identify process improvements, and resolve operational issues impacting service levels.
- Provide regular, clear updates and insights to the Regional Manager.
- Fill in as a driver during employee absences or staffing shortages.
- Ensure accountability for safety standards across Site Managers and employees, including resolving maintenance-related issues.
- Oversee equipment readiness and site operations, including maintenance, rentals, and vendor-supported repairs.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships by coordinating logistics, attending meetings, and aligning service delivery with expectations.
- Analyze P&L performance for a given POD, reporting insights to senior leadership.
- Lead and manage a team of Site and Assistant Area Managers to drive safe operations, strong customer service, and driver engagement.
- Provide end-to-end leadership across the employee lifecycle, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, mentoring, and team development.
- Manage, develop, and supervise personnel to meet business needs efficiently.
- Train new and existing managers/drivers to maintain high performance, safety, and service standards.
- Foster communication, collaboration, diversity, inclusion, innovation, and a productive team environment.
- Promote a business partner and ownership mindset to the team to prioritize customer service excellence, adoption, and resilience to change and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of progressive experience in logistics, transportation, 3PL, or supply chain operations, including 1+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field is a plus.
- Basic computer skills (E-Plan and Geotab) and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of domestic carrier services, rules, and regulations.
- Understanding and prevention of critical safety issues.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze P&L performance.
- Willingness to devote hours necessary to complete tasks at hand.
- Must be flexible and adaptable to the ever-changing market and company objectives.
